It wasn't too long ago that The World's 50 Best Bars revealed its extended 51-100 list, where an incredible 13 bars from Asia were recognised by an academy of 700 drink experts globally. Now, here's what you've been waiting for – the bars in Asia that made it to the official top 50 list for 2024.
We're proud to say that 11 Asian bars ranked in The World's 50 Best Bars for 2024. Hong Kong's Bar Leone makes a spectacular debut on the list, shooting straight to No. 2 worldwide—making it the best bar in Asia and the Disaronno Highest New Entry. These accolades are only the latest jewels in this young bar's crown (it opened in June 2023) – after all, it made a similarly remarkable debut at No. 1 on Asia's 50 Best Bars earlier this year.
Joining Bar Leone on the list is Hong Kong's Coa at No. 18, the sister to The Savoury Project, which ranks No. 82 on the same list.
But it's Singapore that emerged as the definitive cocktail capital of Asia. The city-state clocked four bars in the Top 50, led by Jigger & Pony at No. 5, Nutmeg & Clove at No. 28 (climbing a whopping 37 spots), Analogue Initiative at No. 47, and Atlas at No. 48. This is Analogue Initiative's first time in the top 50, having ranked No. 78 in last year's list. If you like your tipples plant-based and sustainable (and, of course, delicious), this is one bar to check out. Notably, Singapore's Cat Bite Club also scored the Campari One To Watch Award, which recognises bars for their potential to rank in future editions of the list.
Bangkok and Tokyo are represented by two bars each. Bangkok's BKK Social Club rises to No. 12, with new entry Bar Us at No. 41. Meanwhile, Tokyo's Bar Benfiddich ranks at No. 25, with newcomer Virtù at No. 42. Seoul claims one bar – Zest at No. 9, which also clinched this year's Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award for its no-excess approach to cocktail-making.
We'd be remiss not to mention the best bar in the world for 2024. That honour goes to Mexico City's Handshake Speakeasy, the first bar in Mexico to claim the top spot. If you ever find yourself in that part of the world, do pay this Prohibition era-inspired bar a visit for its deceptively minimal list of cocktails designed by head bartender Eric Van Beek.
