The redbrick buildings and towering chimney here have a tale to tell. Once home to the Adelaide ‘destructor’, a giant, electricity-generating incinerator, this was where the city’s rubbish ended up before landfill became the norm in the 1950s. Progressive! The only flames here these days are the ones char grilling octopus, Spencer Gulf king prawns and marinated Moreton Bay Bugs. Order the seafood platter to taste of all of the above, best consumed with several cold bottles of Santorini blonde pilsner. For breakfast (an unexpected bonus in this quiet corner of town), try the rasano htipi (avocado, lime, herbs and feta on garlic sourdough) and a mind-straightening Greek coffee.
