Calling all bookworms! Ghana’s first subscription model library is here, tucked away in PAMA House in West Legon, and the model is a new concept to Ghana that is likely to be a success in its simplicity. The entire catalogue of books is both available online as well as in the library itself. Upon becoming a member at Libreria (there are different lengths of membership, for different amounts of books a month, which can also be frozen if you travel) all books that are loaned from the library can be renewed, reserved and viewed on your account online. But don't let the location put you off (West Legon really is not as far as you think), this cute, cosy library is well worth the visit. The library has a wide range of genres to choose from, including African and African American authors, feminism, travel writing, current affairs and fiction, and an entire section dedicated to any newly released books. The books are in great condition, and by this alone you can tell that the members of Libreria are true book lovers. Apart from being a lending library, Libreria is also a literary salon, used for get-togethers such as games night, writing workshops, and literary talks with authors, readers and poets. Libreria is also launching a new project called Libreria Scholars, in which five girls between the ages of 12 and 17 get free access to the library, as well as mentoring, discussions of books they have read and help in communication and presentation skills. All in all, Libreria is a wonderful project, and its great selection of books will have you coming back every week. Become a member now on www.libreriagh.com or head over to West Legon to check it out yourself.
