On October 25, 2017, the Melcom Group opened its doors to the grand new Achimota store. Located on the Achimota Nsawam Road, opposite the Neoplan Station, the opening honoured those injured and deceased in the collapse of the Melcom Achimota branch 5 years ago. The Melcom Group Director of Communications, Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo, stressed the importance of meticulous safety in this and future buildings, and assured the public of the strength of this store.
The branch was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Robert Ahomka-Lindsay, who applauded the Melcom Group for expanding the country’s horizon in the retail industry, and creating further jobs with the opening of their 38th store. Celebrations continued with a cultural performance of the Kaasah Cultural Troupe, as well as a lively raffle and beautiful music by the Ghana Police Band.
The building was blessed with a traditional Ghanaian, Christian and Muslim prayer and after the cutting of the ribbon, the Melcom Group Chairman, Mr. Bhagwan Khubchandani, took part in ‘lighting the dia’, an Indian tradition to bestow good fortune and luck on the store, alongside Minister Ahomka-Lindsay. The doors to the Melcom Achimota store are yet again open, so be sure to pay them a visit.
