There is, quite simply, no other building on earth like Accra’s new-ish presidential palace, and seat of the government, Flagstaff House (formerly Golden Jubilee House). The unique architecture is said to be based on the sacred Asante Golden Stool, emblematic of the birth of the kingdom, but the cost of construction has inspired a passionate debate. Although completed in 2009, the president and staff only moved there in early 2013. What will happen to the previous seat of government, Christianborg Castle, is still unknown, but there is talk of turning it into a museum.
