Time Out Market Porto has announced that it will open its doors to the public on Friday 3 May 2024 at 12.30pm – following this first day, the Market will be open all day, every day from 10am to midnight. Located in the Southern wing of São Bento Station – one of the city's most iconic locations – Time Out Market Porto is a unique space designed by architect Souto de Moura. New vendors have also been revealed with Sala de Prova and A Vida Portuguesa the latest additions to join the culinary lineup.
Time Out Market is the world's first food and cultural market based on editorial curation, bringing the city’s best chefs, restaurateurs and cultural experiences together under one roof and making it accessible to everyone.
Across approximately two thousand square metres, Time Out Market Porto will be home to 12 kitchens, two bars, an outdoor space and two units in a tower which offers views over the city. The revitalisation project of this space was designed by Porto-born architect Eduardo Souto de Moura, the 2011 Pritzker Architecture Prize winner.
In addition to the previously announced chefs and restaurants (see full list below), two more vendors have been announced to join the curated lineup:
Sala de Prova will breathe life into the top of the tower – for which Souto de Moura took inspiration from the old water reservoirs that existed in train stations. This will be a unique location for Porto locals, national and international tourists to enjoy the best Porto and Douro wine experiences, curated by winemaker Bento Amaral, as well as to taste a menu created by Chef Luís Américo. Every month, there will be a programme of wine-related events, including wine introductory courses, masterclasses, conversations with winemakers, wine dinners and more.
The base of the tower will house the A Vida Portuguesa store, founded by Catarina Portas in 2007, celebrating various iconic Portuguese brands and products. This opening at Time Out Market marks A Vida Portuguesa's return to Porto, in a space that will bring together some of its most recognised products in grocery, home & decor, textiles, stationery, jewellery, and perfumery.
These two newly-announced vendors will join previously announced top, local names; to curate the lineup, the Time Out Porto and Time Out Market Porto teams have tested and tasted food all across the city to uncover the best local talents inviting the very best to join – here’s the list of all chefs and restaurateurs, from Michelin star chefs to much-loved local gems, revealed so far:
- Chef Ricardo Costa: Chef Ricardo Costa has led the restaurant The Yeatman since 2010, which under his direction earned two Michelin stars. At Time Out Market Porto, he will offer his Portuguese cuisine based on local ingredients, with some influences from his hometown, Aveiro.
- Chef Rafaela Louzada: A native of Rio de Janeiro with Portuguese origins, Chef Rafaela Louzada leads the kitchen of Gruta – on Porto’s Rua de Santa Catarina – where Portuguese fish and seafood are the focus.
- Chef Vasco Coelho Santos: One of the rising stars of the new Portuguese culinary scene, Chef Vasco Coelho Santos is responsible for some of the most interesting projects in Porto recently (one Michelin star – Euskalduna Studio).
- Chef Rui Paula: An indispensable name in Porto's gastronomy, at the helm of spaces like DOP, DOC and Casa de Chá da Boa Nova (two Michelin stars). At Time Out Market Porto, he will serve some of his most iconic dishes together with other novelties.
- Meia-Nau: A new approach to classic Matosinhos restaurants with grilled fish and fresh seafood on offer.
- Tábua Rasa: Carolina Matos and Francisco Ré bring together the best Portuguese cheese, ham and sausages – all served on wonderful boards.

- Fava Tonka: Chef Nuno Castro presents his vegetarian cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from national producers.
- Casa Inês: Inês Diniz is behind one of the city's most famous dishes: octopus fillets with rice. Joining Time Out Market Porto is a long-awaited return anticipated by Porto residents and beyond.
- Padaria Ribeiro: A classic bakery and pastry shop rooted in Porto since 1878.
- Sala de Prova: Climbing the Souto Moura tower for one of the best views of the city, but also the best experience with Porto and Douro wines, curated by winemaker Bento Amaral and menu by chef Luís Américo.
- A Vida Portuguesa: The opening at Time Out Market marks the return of the store created by Catarina Portas to Porto, with some of its most iconic products. The store is located at the base of the tower designed by architect, Souto de Moura.
- Time Out Market Porto also has Super Bock, Delta, and Coca-Cola as official partners.
From May 3 onwards, all this culinary talent – the best of the city – will come together in one space, offering iconic dishes such as Octopus Fillets with Rice (Inês Diniz), Bacalhau Malandro with a perfect egg (Chef Rafa Louzada), Suckling Pig Sandwich (Chef Ricardo Costa), Tender Veal with Truffled Mashed Potatoes and Mushrooms (Chef Rui Paula), or the famous Rabanada from Chef Vasco Coelho Santos, and more.
"Os Verdadeiros" Launch Campaign featuring people from Porto, Market vendors and Capicua
The launch campaign of Time Out Market Porto was conceived, created, and produced by local agency, Bastarda. "For the true ones, the best of the city" is the motto of the launch campaign which will run across television, digital advertising and outdoor advertising in metro stations and digital billboards throughout the city starting from April 24. The entire campaign was developed around the concept of "The True Ones" and comes to life in a video with text and narration by local artist, Capicua – a true ode to the people of Porto and the city. "The True Ones" participating in this campaign were selected through a casting call to find the true people of Porto who best embody the city. The video producer was Les Diables and the campaign photographer was Luís Moreira.
Time Out Market Porto will be the second location of Time Out Market in Portugal. The first editorially-curated market opened in Lisbon in 2014, at Mercado da Ribeira, based on an idea from Time Out Portugal’s local team to bring to life the publication’s content which is all about celebrating the best of the city. While this is at the heart of each Time Out Market, the execution of each Market is distinctly local.
The publication Time Out Porto has been present in the city since 2010 and is trusted and valued by the people of Porto who make the most of the city with the recommendations of Time Out’s team of local expert journalists.
