As Time Out Market Osaka gets ready for its highly anticipated opening on 21 March 2025 in the South Building of Grand Green Osaka, the four final vendors have been announced to complete the impressive curated culinary lineup of the best local chefs and restaurateurs. Time Out Market is a food and cultural market dedicated to bringing the best of the city together under one roof: a curated mix of the best chefs, restaurateurs and cultural experiences.
The first to open in Asia, Time Out Market Osaka will put a spotlight on the city’s and Kansai’s award-winning chefs, much-loved local gems and up-and-coming talents – across 3,000 sqm, there will be seventeen kitchens and two bars, making a wide choice of high-quality food and drinks accessible.
Time Out Market Osaka will bring people together, both locals and visitors to the city, over unique and unforgettable culinary and cultural experiences – it will be a vibrant place for everyone to get a real taste of this city, and where friends and family can socialise over outstanding food while immersing themselves in local culture. The Market will also be a platform to promote local talents both domestically and internationally.
With 13 vendors already announced*, these are the final 4 top culinary talents to join Time Out Market Osaka
#NIKUTOIEBA MATSUDA: a favourite from Nara for wagyu dishes with a Michelin Guide recommendation
#NIKUTOIEBA MATSUDA specialises in dishes prepared with Wagyu beef that has become a hot topic in Nara. It will now also bring its unique offering to Time Out Market Osaka with a new style of meat dishes. Chef-Owner Shinji Masuda said about joining Time Out Market Osaka: “We want you to enjoy the high quality of our restaurant in Nara where we offer five methods of Japanese cuisine: raw, boiled, grilled, fried and steamed – a la carte rather than as a menu.” Japanese Black Beef such as Kobe beef and Yamato beef from the Nara prefecture are carefully selected to create meat sushi, sukiyaki, steaks, Wagyu fillet sandwiches and more in a luxurious yet casual atmosphere.
kankokushokudo iru: the flavours of legendary female chef Park Sam-sun – served a la carte
kankokushokudo iru is a restaurant specialising in ginseng chicken soup which is preserving the legacy of the Kanmi Ichi restaurant in Tsuruhashi founded by Park Sam-sun, the first woman to earn a Korean Culinary Technician first-class cooking license. "At Time Out Market Osaka, we offer the Kanmi Ichi Ginseng Chicken Soup® invented by Park Sam-soon, as a casual a la carte dish rather than a course meal. We want you to enjoy it as part of your everyday life," says chef Uenaga Hirohito. At Time Out Market Osaka, while waiting for the renowned and nourishing ginseng chicken soup to be served, guests can also enjoy, paired with a drink, a variety of side dishes such as kimchi and chijimi – all created from the original recipes of chef Park Sam-sun.
Mel Coffee Roasters: memorable speciality coffee
Located in Shinmachi in Osaka, specialty coffee shop Mel Coffee Roasters – known for attracting long queues of coffee lovers – will join Time Out Market Osaka. "I want everyone to know about memorable coffee,” says founder Masahiko Fumimoto. Coffee beans are sourced from countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia, roasted according to the season and humidity, and dripped based on recipes carefully adjusted by a barista. Enjoy single-origin cafe latte with a floral scent such as Geisha or even buy freshly roasted coffee beans.
Gion Tokuya: the popular Japanese dessert restaurant will serve Kyoto-style shaved ice
Gion Tokuya, located in Kyoto, will open its first site in Osaka at Time Out Market where guests can experience blissful sweets made with carefully selected ingredients. "What we value most of all is the quality of the ingredients," says owner Shogo Yamauchi. At Time Out Market Osaka, he will offer shaved ice that is unique to Kyoto, including Special Matcha Uji Kintoki made with premium matcha and homemade bean paste.
It’s not just about food – there will be an exciting bar programme and cultural activations with local talents too
The seventeen food concepts at Time Out Market Osaka are complemented by two Time Out bars offering unique drinks with different themes for each bar. A wide variety of draft beers and wines by the glass will be available as well as sake. In December last year, Japan's traditional sake brewing was registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, and sake has been attracting more attention from both inside and outside Japan. For the Market, sake was selected from the Kansai region, including Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto. There will also be a wide selection of Japanese whiskey, which is highly regarded overseas. There will be a variety of drinks on the menu, including Osaka-themed signature cocktails, mocktails (non-alcoholic), and smoothies. Guests can enjoy drinks with a wide variety of dishes or they can simply spend time at the counter of the bars.
Osaka’s cultural scene is as vibrant as its food scene, and Time Out Market Osaka will offer an exciting year-round curated programme of cultural activations, entertainment and events showcasing local talents such as DJs, live performances and musicians. In addition, there will be family-friendly activities, art displays and workshops that celebrate Osaka’s rich cultural scene.
Upon opening, the Market will feature a stunning mural created by the artist Shun Nakao who – born in 1992 in Asago City, Hyogo Prefecture – lives and works in Osaka. He became an illustrator and artist after graduating from the Department of Design at Osaka University of Arts and is now active as an artist. From his childhood, he has been greatly influenced by the fashion and music of the 80s. This creative collaboration underlines the connection with and support of local artists that is at the heart of Time Out Market, giving a platform to home-grown talents – both culinary and cultural – and ensuring there is always something new and exciting happening to put a spotlight on the best of the city.
"I am honored to be able to exhibit my art at the first Time Out Market in Asia, in Osaka. I wanted to express the energy of Osaka in my work, so I arranged colours and shapes that jump around, with a design that looks as if a child doodled in the condensation on a window, with the city of Osaka in the background. I visualized the innocence and lively city. I hope that this work will become a familiar presence not only for the people of Osaka but also to many visitors to Time Out Market Osaka, the new landmark at Grand Green Osaka," says Shun Nakao.
Taro Kobayashi, General Manager of Time Out Market Osaka, said: "We can’t wait to open Time Out Market Osaka on 21 March 2025. It will be home to Kansai’s outstanding local chefs and restaurateurs who are all raring to go and to provide our guests with unforgettable experiences. We look forward to welcoming you to a place where you can experience not only local food, but also the richness, creativity, and authenticity of local culture.”
