The United Kingdom is old. Like, old old. We’re talking thousands and thousands of years old. Long before we were conquered by the Romans or the Vikings, small communities were dotted around this island, marvelling over the innovative new ‘wheel’ and living houses made of sticks and stone. Now, you can embrace this part of Scottish history by staying in a bronze-era style roundhouse in the Isle of Harris, which has been named the country’s best holiday home.

The Broch sleeps two people, and is in the middle of a secluded part of Harris, which is located way up north in the Outer Hebrides. According to its owners, who reckon this is the first authentic roundhouse built in a couple thousand years, ‘the vision was to make it appear as if 21st century comforts had been transplanted within an ancient ruin.’

The self-catered getaway spot was named Scotland’s best holiday home by a panel of experts on the BBC show ‘Scotland’s Great Escapes’.

If this all sounds like a bit of you, a week’s stay can be yours for only £1760. That’s only two whole months’ rent. What a bargain.

If you’ve got a couple grand to spare and fancy indulging an ancient history fan, you can book your stay at the Broch here, but be warned. Northern Scotland sees the sun even less than the rest of us. Brollies and woolly jumpers advised. Here's some photos of where you could stay.
