Indie bakeries are having a real moment. ‘Course, Britain’s always loved bread but in London experimental pastries have become the new streetwear and across the country, people are queuing for hours to get their hands on the latest hyped-up loaves.

Naturally, we all have opinions on which bakeries are really killing it. And now, the Telegraph has joined the chat. The paper has declared 13 bakeries around Britain as being the very best that the country has to offer.

Farro in Bristol made the cut for its ‘ultra-buttery kouign-amanns, dainty canelés and silky rich pastéis de nata’, while London's Tarn Bakery (from the same guy behind Pophams) was praised for it's ‘more unusual sweet and savoury bakes, such as apple and whey custard or Gorgonzola and squash Danishes’.

Flying the flag for Wales was Tŷ Melin in Cardiff, which is best known for its trademarked ‘croissant bomb’, croissant shells filled with fun flavours like pistachio creme brulee, strawberry meringue and Mississippi mudcake. For Scotland, Bostock in East Linton (‘dab hands at dough’) and Lannan Bakery in Edinburgh (‘immensely Instagrammable pastries’) were declared the best of the best.

Newcastle’s Northern Rye, which has Beyoncé’s seal of approval, also features on the list. The Ouseburn-based bakery supplied the megastar and her crew while she was over here on her Renaissance tour. And who can argue with Queen Bey?
