In days past, London was the only place in the UK that got any attention. They got all the jobs and the public transport system that actually works, and they even got Monopoly. But things are changing, especially on the Monopoly front.

Last month, Winning Moves UK released the Yorkshire Dales edition of Monopoly. The game, which allows players to play as a variety of classic Yorkshire icons including a slab of Wensleydale cheese and a cricket bat, is one of many official spin-offs licensed by Hasbro.

In the game, as you traverse the wuthering heights of north Yorkshire, you’ll suffer if you end up wild camping, and ‘be rewarded for quality sheepdog trials’. Where Mayfair would be on the original board, the Bolton Abbey takes pride of place, while Aysgarth Falls is the cheapest property in the park.

Locals were encouraged to send in suggestions for what should be included in the game, and according to John Keen-Tomlinson, who is in charge of custom games at Winning Moves, ‘The response from the public to Monopoly: Yorkshire Dales Edition has been overwhelming.’

‘The slab of Wensleydale and miniature dry stone wall were almost unanimous choices when we had a public consultation period earlier this year. Both are iconic in the Dales, as are Dalesbred sheep.’

In the end, more than thirty landmarks made it to tabletop fame. You can grab your copy here to begin your pursuit to conquer the north and become the best tycoon in Yorkshire.
