Takeshita Dori stands as a symbol of Tokyo’s collision of street cultures. Along this narrow sloping street (which runs from Harajuku station to Meiji Dori) you’ll find stalls selling photos of fresh-faced ‘idols’ to star-struck schoolgirls, while the hip-hop boutique next door pumps out gangster rap. Shops specialising in ‘Gothic Lolita’ nurse and maid uniforms stand next to those selling retro-punk fashions and Beatles bootlegs. A must-see. Visit at the weekend for the full-on experience.
