Tokyo has its fair share of theme restaurants, but this one just might be the most disturbing: modelled after a prison hospital (yep, a double theme), Alcatraz ER shocks patrons with fake blood-smeared walls, drinks imbibed through syringes, cute but creepy nurse waitresses and blatantly average izakaya food. Look out for birthday parties – there's usually a scary surprise awaiting the hero of the night, so you might witness some unsettling things right at the next table when the lights go out. The location – in the middle of Shibuya's love hotel district – just adds to the charm.
