2016 is the inaugural year for this 'comprehensive urban arts festival', which starts out with a performing arts-focused programme centred on Ikebukuro's Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre and venues in the surrounding area. It's really a combination of four different undertakings, namely the ever-popular Festival/Tokyo 2016 (October 15-December 11), the Metropolitan Theatre Autumn Selection (September 30-December 4), the Toshima International City of Arts & Culture Program (September 1-December 18) and the Asian Performing Arts Forum (November 18-21).
Likely highlights include a performance by veteran German expressionist dancer Susanne Linke, Hideki Noda's play 'Richard Sandaime' – an international collaboration involving Singaporean director Ong Keng Sen and kabuki and kyogen actors – and an open-air show called Daidengaku Ikebukuro Emaki, starring kyogen superstar Manzo Nomura.
Note that there may be days during the event period when no performances are held.
