Time Out says

Soak up the sounds of interesting and diverse artists in one of Sydney’s most unique spaces

We’re going to let you in on one of Sydney’s best-kept secrets and it’s called the hammock room. That’s right, hidden within the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Hyde Park Barracks is a hangout spot filled with 100 comfy canvas hammocks just begging you to come chill. Soon, this unique room will swing into action for Sonic Spaces, an intimate series of music performances and relaxation, featuring an all-star line-up of diverse Sydney musicians.

Taking place on Sunday April 21, join Yuwaalaraay writer, musician and educator Nardi Simpson in this intimate performance as she weaves harmonies of singing and storytelling, accompanied by her keyboard. Nardi has performed nationally and internationally for the past two decades with Indigenous groups Stiff Gins and Freshwater. More recently she’s stepped into the well-deserving role of musical director at Barayagal, a cross-cultural choir of Indigenous and non-indigenous singers run by the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

This is a rare chance to experience the hammock room in a different way, as you become immersed in an audiovisual tapestry with atmospheric lighting, projected imagery and surround sound. As you lose yourself in the melodies, you are encouraged to contemplate whether music has the power to change the way a space makes you feel – and vice versa.

Get swept away by the soothing sounds in the hammock room from 6pm. Tickets start at $36 for members and cost $45 for the general public. Get yours here.
