The place to hang out in summer, this 1930s outdoor leisure centre is eternally popular when the sun comes out. There’s an (unheated and rather chilly) Olympic-sized swimming pool for lane swimming, a large leisure pool with various water spouts and massage taps, a diving pool, plus ping pong tables, volleyball courts and loads of grass to lounge around on. Some might wonder why you need to pay to use an outdoor pool when there’s a great big lake available for free right next door, but for families the supervised beach is a safer bet, plus there are certain amenities – changing rooms, toilets, water slides – that you don’t get at the lake. Best to go in the day if you can, as the place gets overrun with kids when school kicks out.
