The Kornhauskeller in Bern is highly recommended for a special occasion, thanks to the beautiful dining room created from a former granary. The paintings, chandeliers, high ceiling arches, panelling and elaborate candlesticks showcase Bern’s High Baroque period and all add up to a dramatic setting. The flipside is that it's not best suited to casual diners. The kitchen serves up unpretentious reinterpretations of Italian cuisine accompanied by hearty Swiss classics and Bernese specialties. While the selection is best described as solid rather than ground-breaking, the warm service ensures you will enjoy a pleasant dinner. Also worth a mention: the inviting and varied wine menu is available in the bar as well as the restaurant.
