Founded 20 years ago by the choreographer Philippe Saire, the Théâtre Sévelin 36 has become a focal point for dancers from far afield, especially during the once-yearly festival, Les Printemps de Sévelin. Saire is an art-minded choreographer who consistently leads his dancers into uncharted territories and has contributed to making Lausanne the contemporary dance capital of Switzerland.
Ever since the founding of the prestigious dance prize, le Prix de Lausanne in 1973 and the arrival in 1987 of Maurice Béjart’s ballet company, a new generation of dance professionals has been moving up through the ranks. Théâtre Sévelin 36 is both a showcase and breeding ground for dancers. Workshops are organized throughout the year, including with children.
On 8,9 and 10 May, it will be one of the main venues for the nationwide Dance festival open to anyone who loves dance.
Théâtre Sévelin 36 forms a triangle in the Flon with closeby Arsenic and the Docks.
