Almost uniformly black, just about everything from this label is a statement piece, with super-edgy, androgynous, postmodern cuts. DEPRESSION – helmed by director/designer Kenny Lim and creative director Andrew Loh – is one of the darlings of the underground fashion scene, and counts Taboo from The Black Eyed Peas as a customer. Think flowing capes, jackets with pointy shoulders and leggings for men, and you’re halfway there. But it’s not all avant garde – they recently introduced a range of witty, colourful and non-depressing T-shirts and shirts.
Star buys Cool and quirky T-shirts for $49-$59, and cheery plastic weather-inspired accessories from their ‘Cloudiness of Conscience’ collection ($79 for a necklace). For something more daring, we like the edgy studded shoes ($195), clutches and hats from their PreFall12 collection, ‘Plastic Surgery’.
They say ‘We got depressed with corporate slavery and decided to fi ght the depression with DEPRESSION. That’s why our designs are always cheeky and slightly twisted. Unlike other typical local fare, the DEPRESSION label aims to entertain the shopper with a sense of irony and dark humour in medical-themed collections. We’re very happy to have built a cult following among the ‘black collar’ crowd, which includes the creative and artistic industries.’
Where you can buy them DEPRESSION’s flagship store is located at #03-05A Cineleisure Orchard (depression.com.sg). You can also buy them online at asiafashioninc.com, www.zalora.sg and www.actuallyshop.com.
