Holland Village’s new 0.3-hectre community park opens with a café/ bar at its far end. The airy eco-friendly façade (made with the metal from three shipping containers) includes solar panels on the roof that help drive the operations onsite, but ultimately takes on a more upmarket feel. Food-wise, Park contends with shophouse neighbours Hatched, offering all-day brunch, but turns into a bar at night giving way to modern day comfort food with signature dishes like truffle mac and cheese, parmesan truffled fries and Spam chips – a gut-busting creation of deep-fried luncheon meat slivers. Taking the concept of cheap drinks from co-owner Adam Chen’s popular 5ive Izakaya bar in the CBD, tapped Orion and Kronenbourg go for $6 per half pint all day, and coffee’s a solid offering that’s a custom blend, made by local roaster Smitten.
