Choreographer Hamid Ben Mahi’s latest piece is based on the music of Alain Bashung: an hour-long show of powerful dance to ‘Madame Rêve’. In front of an undulating gas station backdrop, five acrobats throw and catch each other back and forth, following guitar riffs and the squeaks of a bow to create multiple sketches of community life, extreme solitude, tension and intimacy. Influenced by both rock and hip-hop, Ben Mahi’s choreography is full of intensity and dynamism, and there’s an incredible rapport between the dancers and the two musicians (Yan Péchin and Bobby Jocky): an energetic, potent show, full of inspiration.
