Alan Gilbert is at the helm of four out of five New York Philharmonic concerts in the city's five boroughs this week, conducting an evening of Richard Strauss, Smetana and Tchaikovsky in Brooklyn (July 10) and Queens (July 11). A conductorless indoor concert at CUNY's outpost in Staten Island (July 13) features various octet works—including Charles Wuorinen's Bearbeitungen über das Glogauer Liederbuch, a rather unusual piece of repertoire for a summertime gig. A final program of Nielsen, Bruch, Grieg and Liszt will touch down at Central Park on July 14 and the Bronx on July 16.
