Red-nosed jokers gathered in Union Square for the opening parade of the annual New York Clown Theatre Festival, spreading mirth across two boroughs via the L train. The merry group of bozos culminated their journey in a giant public pie fight at the Brick, which hosts the festival each year. The 2012 edition runs from September 7 through 30, when it will close with the traditional over-the-top funeral parade and memorial service, complete with wailing clown mourners.
