Long before anyone had a selfie stick, New Yorkers were using cameras loaded with film to capture themselves among the city’s glorious landmarks and attractions. These images show a bygone era of New York, the days when disco ruled all, catching punk shows on the Lower East Side was still a (new) thing and no one wanted to live below 14th Street. As we look back, it's surprising to see not only how much the city has changed in the past 60 years—even pictures of NYC in the '90s look like a different place—but also how some things remain exactly the same.
