It's the time of year again when more than 3,350 films (a festival record!) from 103 different nations descend on Kings County. Now in its 27th year, the narrative films, documentaries, experimental flicks and animated features chosen to screen this time around are all centered around the theme of "Immersion." These cinematic stories "dive way beyond the surface to force the audience to consider not only the obvious outcomes and meanings, but also the hidden and secret ones,” per festival director Marco Ursino.
The fest—which will run both at two physical venues (Windmill Studios in Greenpoint and the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg) as well as online at the BFF website—will begin with a showing of Atikamekw Suns by Québécois director Chloé Leriche. Events run from May 31 to June 9.
