Former John Masters Organics Salon stylist Joe Murray has opened this natural hair parlor, which exclusively uses eco-friendly products from Murray’s previous employer. French doors salvaged from an 1800s Philadelphia rectory, a repurposed barn-wood floor and a baby grand piano used as the reception desk give the space an old-world feel. You won’t have to worry about breathing in noxious gases when you stop by for a cut ($100), highlights ($150–$250) or single-process color ($100), which employs Schwarzkopf’s ammonia-free Essensity dye. The rare services that require the use of potentially toxic products, such as hairspray for updos ($100–$175), are executed in the sealed-off and specially ventilated Fume Room—the only area in the salon that permits the use of harmful gases.
