A rotating display of colorful patent-leather, nylon and canvas sneakers beckons shoppers into the futuristic BAPE store, where you wouldn’t be surprised to catch Kanye West or Kid Cudi (a former employee) hunting for exclusive gear from the world’s most sought-after streetwear brand. Scoop up the candy-colored kicks and limited-edition camo-print hoodies, tees and accessories that are so often knocked off on nearby Canal Street, but don’t bypass the more subtle garments on the racks, like finely crafted button-ups and sweaters that will never stretch out. The prices aren’t for the faint of heart, but the quality and cachet are unimpeachable. The second floor (sneakers) is not wheel chair accessible.
