Chavella’s doesn’t offer much by way of decor—the kitchen is hidden behind green blinds, the floor tiles are a basic tan, and patrons sit at simple wooden tables. But this reasonably priced spot shouldn’t be overlooked as a place to eat out. The trio of salsas (spicy salsa verde, smoky chipotle and chunky pico de gallo) is served with freshly fried, multicolored chips, replenished free of charge. Order the bistec taco and you’ll receive two soft corn tortillas cradling tender marinated flank steak, fresh cilantro and pico de gallo for just $2.50. Addictive grilled ears of corn are buttered, then topped with dollops of creamy chipotle mayo and a sprinkling of cotija cheese.
