Tokyo street food, meet Bushwick bistro. Inspired by their travels to the East, Japanophile owners Vincent Minchelli and Amanda Jenkins enlisted chef Atsushi Yokota (formerly of 1 of 8) to oversee a menu focused on okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancakes) at this 40-seat eatery, with toppings running the gamut from traditional (cabbage, pork-and-egg, Kewpie mayo) to outré (chorizo-and-chipotle, a kale-based vegan option). Beyond the namesake dish, sidle up to the 12-seat teppanyaki counter—playfully decorated with the owners' Japanese toy collection—for offbeat small plates like cactus sashimi, squid-ink fried rice and daikon vichysoisse soup, prepped to pair with Japanese shochu, sake and craft beers that include a sinus-clearing wasabi variety.
