No doom-metal band can rightly claim freedom from Black Sabbath's influence, but the four-decade-old Pentagram is something of a special case. Curious Volume, Pentagram's most recent album, pulls from the same bottomless well that singer Bobby Liebling’s been tapping since the early ’70s: lumbering tempos, fuzzy power chords and words that swirl heavy-metal accusation with a dreamy vulnerability.
