Daughters of the late Cuban percussionist Anga Diaz (of the Buena Vista Social Club), twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz followed in his footsteps, studying the folk songs of their father's Yoruban culture. The French-Cuban pair's eponymous debut mixes those influences with minimal pop, guided by producer and XL label head Richard Russell (who has worked on recent triumphs by Gil Scott-Heron and Bobby Womack). On the heels of the new disc, the group turns up for a buzzy Brooklyn show.
