New York will live up to its Big Apple nickname during this weeklong, fifth annual festival celebrating the seasonal return of apple cider and all its spiked variations. Choose from more than 20 workshops and tastings, like an à la carte Filipino lechon pig roast at Jimmy's No. 43 or a thoughtful Women in Cider panel moderated by Wassail co-owner Sabine Hrechdakian ($25). On Sunday, the Lower East Cider Festival will take over three blocks of, fittingly, Orchard Street for a family-friendly affair complete with folk dancing, make-your-own caramel apples and free samples of cider and bites from neighborhood eateries, including Mission Cantina and Huertas.
