The entirely original oeuvre of the late, dearly missed Ashley continues seducing a new generation of interpreters. Tonight, indie electronic duo Matmos debuts its interpretation of scenes from the Ashley masterwork Perfect Lives. Nominally concerned with the explication of a mysterious bank robbery in the Midwest, the piece is actually a playful meditation on bigger philosophical themes (like the prospect of finding love, late in life, at the supermarket). If you want to familiarize yourself with the literary density of the scenes Matmos will be performing ("The Park" and "The Backyard"), you can pick up the libretto in a paperback edition from the Dalkey Archive.
