Verizon customers were briefly plunged back into the dark ages this morning thanks to an unexplained hardware failure that resulted in network-wide outages.
“We started experiencing intermittent data outages a little after 7:30 this morning in Midtown and Upper Manhattan, the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland and Putnam Counties. Service began restoring at 9am and we are back to normal service levels,” a spokesman for the company told ABC7. "A hardware failure is suspected as the culprit. We're doing a full investigation.”
On top of inconveniencing hundreds of customers, the network-wide outage also cancelled Central Park’s “Wednesday Wander” due to connectivity issues.
