Taking an Uber in New York just got a little more affordable. (As long as there's no surge pricing.)
Starting at 7am this morning, Uber X and XL rides have been permanently reduced by 15 percent. The Uber X base fare is dropping from $3 to $2.55, the per mile rate is going from $2.15 to $1.75 and the per minute rate is now 35 cents from the previous 40 cents. (Obviously, not including possible surge pricing.)
First reported by the New York Post, the price drop means that a ride from Midtown to LaGuardia Airport that may have once cost $43.67 will now cost $37.12. (Or $Halfyourrent, in case of surge pricing.)
While this is great news for the many Uber users in NYC, it's not so great for taxi drivers who continue to face growing competition from the private company. (That frequently employs surge pricing.)
