RECOMMENDED: Full Paul WagtouiczHigh Line in NYC guide
Just after shuttering Torrisi Italian Specialties to switch gears, Major Food Group trio Rich Torrisi, Mario Carbone and Jeff Zalaznick (the brains behind blockbusters like Dirty French and Carbone) are launching their latest—and largest—hit-maker, Santina, on Monday.
Named for Carbone's Sicilian grandmother, Santina sits beneath the High Line in a glass-walled space dotted with Murano-glass chandeliers and seascape paintings crafted from ceramic plates. While Torrisi plans to stick to the Mulberry Street kitchen, Carbone will take over at this new coastal Italian spot, griddling chickpea-flour pancakes in cast-iron pans and giving lemon-leaf–wrapped mozzarella the same a la plancha treatment as agrodolce-glazed octopus skewers. The menu also includes turkey meatballs, T-bone steaks that have been dry-aged for 21 days and even Japanese-style short-grain rice dressed in sauce like pasta. 820 Washington St between Gansevoort and Little West 12th Sts (212-254-3000)
