Spike Lee is throwing a giant Prince birthday party in Brooklyn

When the world found out that Prince died on April 21, we were shocked, saddened and immediately inspired to cue up a playlist of his greatest hits. Musical tributes cropped up all over the city that night, from a dance party on the Hamilton stage to a massive party thrown by Spike Lee in the street outside his Fort Greene offices. This weekend, his party continues. 

The director is hosting the Prince Born Day: Purple People Party in Brooklyn to celebrate Prince’s June 7 birthday. Co-hosted by rapper Sway Calloway, the party starts at noon on June 4 at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration, and the dress code is (duh) anything purple.
