Hundreds of Black Lives Matter Protesters are currently marching up Fifth Avenue from Union Square in a demonstration against police violence. The protest began at 5pm in the park, then traveled north along Fifth Avenue, disrupting traffic.
The anti-police shootings march is a response to two tragic deaths of black men this week. Thirty-seven-year-old Alton Sterling was killed by police officers outside of a convenience store on Tuesday night, and a Minnesota police officer fatally shot Philando Castile at a traffic stop with his girlfriend and child in the car last night.
