And so it begins. There will be no L service in both directions between Lorimer St and 8th Ave starting tonight at 11:45pm, and continuing for the next four weekends, through May 18. On one hand, it sucks for anyone that has to travel between boroughs, and it's especially hard on local businesses. On the other hand, it gives you a great excuse to stay home and, if you're a Williamsburg resident, possibly enjoy a few tourist-free Smorgasburgs.
Either way, Uber's come up with a way to shuttle you between boroughs for a lot less than a normal cab ride. For the next five weekends, anyone along the L line (to or from Williamsburg) can use Uberpool for a $5 flat-rate ride between the boroughs. In Manhattan, anyone from 10th to 18th street can pick up an Uber for the cheaper rate, and in Williamsburg anyone in the 11211 or 11249 areas can take advantage—basically from Kent Ave to the south, N 14th/Nassau Ave to the north and Bushwick Ave to the east. The rates will apply from 11:30pm Friday to 5am Mondays through May 18.
I don't know about you, but I'm considering this extended L-trainless era an invitation for a serious staycation. Happy Friday, everyone!
