Get swaddled for free on Sunday at a peculiar pop-up

Yes, that's right—this weekend is your last chance to get bundled up like a baby at Alternative Pleasure—a self-described "pop-up gesture store" in Crown Heights, which could yet join the ranks of New York's weirdest treasures. What, you may ask, is a pop-up gesture store? To which we will reply, it's a bit like Burning Man but on a teeny-tiny scale: You purchase something at this artsy shop by offering an experience or gesture of your own choosing to the seller. The swaddling involves being wrapped up in white cloth, as you can see in the photo above. We think it sounds nice, and presumably operates along the same principles as doggies' "thunder shirts", which calm agitated canines' nervous systems by, essentially, giving them a cuddle. The swaddling is carried out by dancer Carrie Ahern, whose two colleagues at the store, Andrea Haenggi and Robert Neuwirth, promise a variety of other ephemera on exchange. Fancy a swaddle? Head to 1067 Pacific Street this Sunday (Sep 14) between 2-8pm. Just don't forget to bring your bargaining tool (we suggest offering your very best smile).
