What’s the best thing about being a bartender? Connecting with the neighborhood and its people—whether it’s cheering someone up or cheering someone on.
What New York bar trend do you love? People have started realizing there’s something out there beyond vodka-cranberry. Bay Ridge is an old-school, blue-collar neighborhood and everybody drinks Bud Light or vodka drinks, but three or four years ago, I started introducing Rusty Nails and Manhattans, and it started picking up.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve witnessed as a bartender? When the Rangers won the Stanley Cup, people just looked at that Bud in their hands like a bottle of champagne. Trust me, as much as you think your buddy wants that poured over his head, he doesn’t.
