    New York City Ballet dancers get their end-of-the-season scent.

    Everybody who knows anything about ballet and Balanchine is acquainted with the cheesy perfume story—that he gave each of his favorite ballerinas a bottle so he could recognize their scent at the theater (or know when they weren’t around). In a 1993 issue of The New Dance Review, the late dance critic and writer Anita Finkel published a list of the perfumes that Balanchine would have given if he were still with us. We’ve decided to revive the tradition in honor of New York City Ballet’s winter season, which concluded on February 24.
