The Parks Department reminds us why we should love the colder months in New York with its annual Winter Jam, a day-long event that transforms Central Park's Rumsey Playfield into a winter sports wonderland. You and the kids can take part in snowshoeing, sledding, curling, ice bowling and snowy dodgeball. You can even learn to ski–free lessons and gear are allocated by online lottery–thanks to snowmakers brought down from Gore Mountain and equipment loaned by REI Co-op. Don't worry if you need a break from the cold—just cozy up in the heated New York Public Library reading room. All ages.
