Birthdays, anniversaries, big career moves, apologies – all great occasions for which to buy flowers. None of them, however, have quite the bloom appeal as Valentine's Day, especially when you couple that bouquet with a rich box of chocolates and a decadent Valentine's Day dinner. Miami has always had florists sprouting up in every corner and lately their creativity has been at peak bloom. Whether you're in the dog house and need a last-minute delivery or you want to gift an artful arrangement to someone you love – including yourself – you’ll find more than one way to treat yourself at these shops, from flower subscriptions to  small trinkets from local vendors. Thoughtful as flowers may be, remember, cozying up at a romantic restaurant in Miami or even a Miami-inspired date also go a long way.

This local florist and gift shop specializes in custom arrangements and flower subscription programs (both fresh and dried). Owner Melanie Fernandez sources the best of what’s in season for her bouquets, including funky buds you won’t find at most florists—think quicksand roses and colorful dahlias. Organic, effortless and whimsical, the final piece should feel like it "naturally sprung up from the ground," she says. The Bird Road Arts District storefront stocks a fresh stem bar weekly for DIY arrangements as well as locally made wares and thoughtful trinkets for easy gifting.

While you find mostly plants and succulents at Midtown Garden Center, enough to outfit an entire yard, right front and center is Zoom Bloomz, where you can get fresh-cut flowers by the stem as well as gorgeous custom arrangements at a very good price. This is the closest Miami gets to a romcom-esque outdoor flower stand. Make an afternoon of it by grabbing a bite at the restaurant onsite.

With an expansive shop off busy Bird Road, Trias is equipped to handle drop-ins and last-minute requests, plus delivery is available seven days a week. More botanical gallery than flower shop, Plant the Future presents greenery as exquisite works with rotating galleries of plant-based canvases. You'll find their flagship location where Little River meets El Portal, which also doubles as a tea house, so feel free to stop by and spend an afternoon. The company is responsible for some of the city's most iconic greenspaces and walls, including that Sistine-chapel-esue stunner within the lobby of the 1 Hotel, and they're also available for private commissions. Of course, you can just pop by and pick up a statement-making terrarium. Lucky for you, these arrangements can last practically forever.

After hustling in the NYC magazine industry for six years, Miami native Elizabeth Jaime moved back home and began “playing with flowers,” she says. That hobby quickly led to paying work with trendy brands like Glossier, Simonett and other clients who covet, as Jaime describes it, “design and the impact that fresh flowers can have in your space.” When building one of her “colorful, trendy and tropical-ish” arrangements, Jaime allows color and composition to drive the design. “I like to treat each arrangement as if it’s a sculpture made out of flowers. That way, the client feels like they’re taking home something really special.”

6. Angela's Flowers Miami

An I-195 underpass might sound like an odd place for a flower shop, but herin sits Angela's Flowers Miami, a sprawling stand that pops up during the day and packs up at night. More robust than your standard makeshift corner shop, this Design District flower stand has a range of options, from classic roses to tropical stems like birds of paradise, mostly sold seperately so you can formulate your own dream arrangement.

This Bird Road flower shop built its reputation on creating eccentric arrangements in a kaleidoscope of colors. Avant Gardens dares to go where few florists do, focusing mostly on exotic blooms and unconventional designs. Go to them for grand gestures and bold proclamations.

Run by husband wife duo Marcela Bazana and Jackson Weber, Flormosura's tropical arrangements feel like a day in Rio. Marcela, the creative force behind the brand, is Brazilian, which might explain why her arrangements exude the wavy colors and funky movement of an exhuberant carnaval. They operate out of their creative studio in Fort Lauderdale, which is open for walk-ins on Mondays and is also available for event and photoshoot rentals. Contract them for special events or opt in to their subscription service (weekly or monthly) to make sure your home or business always feels fresh.

10. Twigs & Daisies

Stepping into Twigs & Daisies will make you feel like you're in a charming flower shop in small town America. You can pick everything from the buds down to the vase – or simply have the expert staff pick and arrange it for you. They frequently host workshops within this MiMo storefront where you can learn everything from how to properly cut stems to building an arrangement with the right proportions. As a bonus, it's right next to MiMo Garden Center, so you can leave with a fresh arrangement and a big potted palm, too.

After working at several prominent Miami arts organizations, including ICA Miami, de la Cruz Collection and EXILE Books, Sara Darling opened Rose Coloured in 2016 with a mission to bring, she says, “a fresh, elevated aesthetic” to the local floral and event scenes. Her Little River storefront doubles as a platform for education and community building as well as artist collaborations, “connecting flower arranging with various art practices.” Special events like in-store workshops on pottery-making and styling your holiday table add to the bespoke feel of the Rose Coloured brand.

12. Naunet Floral

There are floral arrangements, and then there is art. Naunet Floral is part of that new wave of floral shops and designers that specialize in avant-garde arrangements. Think Anthuriums, amaranths, whispy orchids, etc. This is where you order from when you want a big statement arrangement, not your run of the mill vase with rose buds. Arrangements start at $200 and can be ordered on Naunet's site
