Time Out says

With 32 acres of open space directly adjacent to Chinatown, L.A. State Historic Park boasts an amazing view of Downtown. The park was once home to major events like FYF, Renegade Craft Fair and Hard Summer, but all went quiet with a major multi-year renovation that started in 2014. Upon its completion in spring 2017, the park redesign added drought tolerant landscaping, a scenic overlook bridge, an orange grove and a snack bar, Cargo.

What’s on

Bob Baker Day

In celebration of the late Bob Baker’s legacy, his namesake puppet theater hosts this annual celebration at Los Angeles State Historic Park. The free fest and outdoor carnival, which runs from 10am to 5pm, features puppet performances throughout the day, plus an assortment of crafts and activities that typically includes everything from bubbles to balloons to music. In the wake of the fires, this year’s theme is “Recovery Through the Arts,” so expect an uplifting and community-building event. Stay tuned for the lineup of special guests.

Street Food Cinema

For dinner and a movie, all in one, just follow the food trucks. During the spring, summer and fall, Street Food Cinema throws together a series of outdoor parties that include screenings of some of our favorite movies, paired with an assortment of gourmet food trucks and even a live music performance from a cool local band. The screenings are held in venues across L.A. and alternate from week to week, so make sure to check the schedule. Some of the outdoor venues are dog-friendly, allowing you to bring your four-legged cinema lover along. See more of this season’s outdoor movie screenings in L.A.

La La Land in Concert

The La La Land concert of our dreams? A recreation of the “Another Day of Sun” opener on the 105 and 110 connector. But we'll take “City of Stars” with the DTLA skyline as a backdrop as a close second. La La Land is set for a screening and live concert at L.A. State Historic Park this September. Composer Justin Hurwitz will conduct the Oscar-winning score backed by a 53-piece orchestra and jazz ensemble. The concert, which premiered at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2017, has now become a returning tradition thanks to Street Food Cinema.
