Time Out says

If your wallet or schedule doesn't allow you to opt for a weekend or two in Indio this spring (or if Coachella holds zero appeal for you), Brokechella has you covered. Billed as "A Music Fest for the Rest of Us," this one-day Coachella alternative is in its fifth year of showcasing up-and-coming LA bands from a variety of genres along with cheap drinks, boutique vendors, face painting, games and activities, a green initiative, food trucks galore and "puppychella" for your pooches. Event producers cARTel: Collaborative Arts LA founded the budget-friendly option when one of their regularly scheduled Spring Community Pool events fell on the same weekend as Coachella; the idea soon gained a following. This year the festival will feature four stages and an impressive number of acts, plus lots of festival-wide art installations including 5-yr birthday piñatas, live muraling and a mobile ink-printing station.
