Coachella got off to a slow start this year—the crowd seemed a bit lackluster, the music was good but not great and everyone—audience, performers and staff alike—seemed a little tired (unless that was just us projecting?). But there were a few high points: Sylvan Esso put on a great show in the early afternoon, followed by Azealia Banks (who outshone her internet rival Bronson, we must say). Steely Dan made us miss our parents, and Tame Impala began their set with a warped version of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" before admitting how nervous they were to be playing such a big fest (and then proceeding to kill it). Todd Terje brought a gaggle of glowing dancers onstage for "Inspector Norse." And guys, ACDC really rocked it. Brian Johnson can still belt it out and Angus Young fucking wails on guitar, still doing his signature moves, tonight in a red velvet short suit. Our moods (and everyone's around us) much improved after some proper rocking, we're hoping for an even better day tomorrow.
