Los Angeles is heating up this week with temperatures expected to reach 102 to 108 degrees in many spots around the city.

This heat wave is serious, so be careful out there: there’s an excessive heat warning that will remain in effect from 11am Tuesday until 8pm on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

These temperatures probably won't set any records but they are unusually high. And without the strong winds that we usually get this time of year to offset the hot sunlet's not sugarcoat itwe’re pretty much going to bake. It won’t even cool down too much at night with the temperatures expected to hang around the mid-70s.

LA weather is known for always being perfect, so when the thermostat fluctuates even a little, people tend to overreact—just think of the lines at ramen shops whenever the temperature dips below 65 degrees. But still: this kind of heat is pretty much unbearable. For those of us without air conditioning, or who are just interested in getting out of the house, try one of these three ideas to help beat the heat.

1. Get to know your next favorite TV show at a Paley center Fall TV preview.

2. The Hollywood Recreation Center's pool reopened earlier this summer, so slap on some sunscreen and go for a dip.

3. Nothing tastes better on a hot summer day than some ice cream, so check out one of our favorite spots.
