After months of will-they-won’t-they suspense, we received final confirmation this morning that the El Niño-inspired LA river inner tube race has been cancelled. The brain baby of husband-and-wife duo Kurt Braunohler and Lauren Cook, the competitive event, known as L.A.zy River, had finally been set for this Saturday. Though earlier in the week the couple had confirmed it was indeed going down, they announced this morning that municipal authorities had stepped in last-minute to cancel everyone’s fun. They sum it up best, so you can read their full email below:
"Attention!
Due to snitches in our ranks,
THE FROGTOWN TUBING EVENT IS CANCELLED!
Do NOT go to Ripple St under the 2 on Saturday. Do NOT go to the afterparty location - no one will be there.
It seems as if the Army Corps of Engineers, City Hall, and various municipalities are FURIOUS at the thought of tube-circled butts floating peacefully down a short stretch of the LA River.
STAY TUNED though, we're still working on a top secret LEGAL way to "celebrate the LA River".
