If you've never been to Echo Park's Club Bahia because a) you thought you might get beat up or b) you didn't know it existed, we've got news for you. Not only does it exist (in fact, it's been a pretty happening Latin dance club since 1974), but it's opening its doors to its new (young, hip, perhaps unnecessarily afraid) neighbors for four nights of live music a week. Entertainment giant Live Nation will take over programming from Monday through Thursday, bringing both local and national indie, pop and dance acts to the venue under the moniker "Bahia Live."

Though Echo Park already has its fair share of local live music venues (the EchoBootleg and Echo Country Outpost, to name a few), and though Live Nation is by the far the biggest in a line of names taking over space in Echo Park (Lassen's, Cafe Stella's new outpost Dinette), we're hopeful. Bahia Live's opening show is a doozy, featuring local acts (and Time Out bands to watch in 2014Gavin Turek and De Lux. If that's any indication, we have lots of good shows to look forward to. And maybe Bahia's new neighbors will come back on a Friday or Saturday to mingle with the long-time locals, even learn a few new dance moves for the next Bahia Live gig.

Catch Gavin Turek and De Lux at Bahia Live, Thursday December 11 at 9pm, $12. The next scheduled Bahia Live event isn't until April 2015, but keep an eye out for more show announcements soon. Tickets and info here.
