Now that February is half over and you've visited most of January's best restaurant and bar openings (or, you know, have put in some solid effort), maybe it's time to take a break from your typical dining experience. We're talking about supper clubs, which seem to be multiplying in droves. There's something thrilling about signing up for a "secret" dinner party, not knowing where you're dining until the day of, and sharing a meal with a table full of strangers. Here are a couple standouts this month, whether you're looking for a last-minute surprise gift for your Valentine or celebrating with your food-obsessed friend.
Live Art Supper Club: Is it an art show or a dinner party? It's a little bit of both, actually: guests at this supper club enjoy a five-course meal while taking in live artwork from mixed-media artist Adam Greener and painter Eric Ernest Johnson. Held at G2 Gallery in Venice, the event is a collaboration between Art Unified and chef Vince Howard, who will be serving dishes like braised lamb with curry yogurt, orange prawns with ricotta grits and dark chocolate cake. Snag a ticket here. Feb 13, $98
PlaceInvaders: The NY-based supper club makes a much-anticipated return to LA with a few dinners and brunches this month, hosted in a Downtown penthouse apartment with killer views (address made available once tickets are bought). Feast on a five-course meal and unlimited cocktails from co-founder and chef Hagan Blount. You're guaranteed to meet some interesting people, who only get more intriguing as the wine continues to flow. Tickets can be purchased here. Feb 20 (brunch or dinner), $250 for two people
Re Creo Supper Club: Hosted by chefs Jean Valcarcel (Mo-Chica) and Gabriel Cappelli (Saint Martha), Re Creo Supper Club usually pops up Downtown, but they're heading to Silver Lake this month for a fantastic multi-course meal. The menu changes each time; this month, diners will start off with a Filipino longanisa tostada, followed by sweet corn cakes with farmers' market greens and avocado sorbet. Pork albondigas, eggs Florentine and grilled NY steak with brûléed yam puree will also be served, and the meal will end with a black olive cake for dessert. Reservations can be made here. Feb 20, $125 suggested donation
Foodshop: One of our favorite supper clubs in the city, Foodshop, is hosting seven dinners this month, starting tomorrow and ending on the 27th. Some are held in Echo Park, some in Venice, but all will feature a soul food menu from Hyejin Cho and Itay Zach, the founders of this fantastic dinner party. Sip on a bourbon cocktail; get dizzy with glee on mac and cheese, fried chicken and biscuits; and end your night with bourbon bread pudding and some new friends. BYOB—moonshine is recommended. Sign up for an invite here. Feb 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 26, 27, $70 minimum donation
